New Orleans and Back by Ken Colyer
Published by Ken Colyer Trust, 1992. A Reprint of the original 1970 publication. Softcover Book, 65 pages.
Book is in Very Good condition, light crease on front cover, some shelf wear.
The title page is inscribed to Peter Bullis by Al Kershaw. Peter is the banjoist of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band which is in its 47th year. The inscription refers to the band's 25th anniversary so it must have been about 1993.
Although this book is shorter than many, each page is pure gold. It takes place mainly during Colyer's brief early 1950s residence in New Orleans ans his personal experiences meeting and sitting in with black New Orleans jazzmen like George Lewis, Jim Robinson, Emile Barnes, Slow Drag Pavageau and many others. Colyer writes extraordinarily well, his descriptions so vivid that you might as well be there yourself. A real gem.
