Description of Product

Henry Byrd aka Professor Longhair, under the pseudonym Robert Boyd. This is one of the toughest Professor Longhair 78s to find, on the tiny Wasco label from Memphis. Apparently this is the only record Longhair made outside of New Orleans before the 1970s, supposedly recorded after hours in a bar in St. Louis and definitely using a piano that was waaaay out of tune, probably when he was on tour with Fats Domino in 1952-53. "East St. Louis Baby" is Longhair's staple "Mardi Gras in New Orleans" with lyrics adapted to fit the recording location. Very little wear on this copy, but some scuffs mainly on "Boyd's Bounce" which don't sound, and a small patch of something that causes a short glitch each revolution for the first 20 seconds or so, may be a pressing flaw. MP3 available on request. This record is from the personal collection of radio personality and music historian Barret “Dr. Demento” Hansen, who is starting to downsize portions of his collection.
